Welcome to glimmering, shimmering Glandore – the most picturesque harbour village in South West Ireland. Look out the harbour and imagine the lost treasure that was picked up from wreckage on The Dangers rocks, see the prominent Adam and Eve islands where local boating folk advise intrepid sailors to ‘avoid Adam and hug Eve’ or search for the ship’s sail full of gold and silver hidden by Spanish sailors somewhere between two castles and two streams. Reflect at the mystical and ritual site of Drombeg Stone Circle. Trek down to Prison Cove – or escape and relax awhile, indulging your palate in the fine village hostelries.
Glandore is situated just off the N71 approximately 72km south west of Cork City, approximately 41km south east of Bantry and the two largest towns in close proximity are Skibbereen which is 14km west and Clonakilty which is 20km east.

Cyril and Anne Kilgrew – In Memory
The Kilgrews hailed from Merchants Quay, North Main St and Kyle St in Cork. Cyril and Ann ran a successful business in North Main St specialising in toys, prams, bicycles and the like. They were highly regarded in the area and their attention to detail was evident in both their business and social life.

He met Ann Cripps and they were married in London in 1954. They worked hard and built up a very successful business but they also made time for play. Cyril was one of the first to build a holiday home in Ownahincha and from there he developed an interest in sea angling, keeping a boat in Glandore. After selling this house Cyril built in Glandore where he subsequently retired to.
When the Glandore Regatta was in its infancy he was involved in its organisation. Being the sportsman that he was, he expanded his interest into windsurfing, diving and sailing - purchasing ‘Greenfly’, his first yacht. He went on to own several other boats and took a great interest in cruising, making several trips to the Scilly Isles, south coast of England and the SW coast of Ireland. Of course these were boy’s only trips!
